Storing cosmetics in the fridge

Many women do it and sometimes even men too… They keep their makeup in the fridge! Well it’s not really a new discovery. Storing cosmetics in the fridge might have been a habit already for you, since there’s a certain connotation that refrigerators help preserve the quality of goods. Lets look deeper into it, if it really does good to your cosmetics or the other way around.

Natural beauty comes from within, as the saying goes. However, for those who wish to enhance ones beauty – there are certain products to help care, nurture and maintain a healthy glowing skin, lips, nails and hair. There are definitely plenty of products nowadays that can cater to all your aesthetic needs and even for pampering. But the main concern is how you can properly take care of these products in a way that you get the most out of them.

We all know that food keeps for longer in the refrigerator than elsewhere. This is because a cool environment slows down chemical processes. And so, the question arises: does this also hold true for cosmetics?

Firstly, we have to acknowledge that these days, most industrially manufactured products are designed so that they do not need to be kept cool; all products can withstand storage temperatures of up to 40°C. Manufacturers are happy to go through the process of testing the temperature stability of their products before they go to market – including freezing and defrosting cosmetics. However, despite having good temperature stability, lipsticks can sometimes become soft and melt at higher temperatures. Nowadays, many people are actually choosing to cool their cosmetic products in the refrigerator.

Here’s a list of cosmetic products you should keep in the fridge:

Creams, serums, moisturizers and lotions
It gives that cooling effect when you apply the products on your skin. Chilled creams especially helps boost circulation to the skin and help take away puffiness. So next time you had a late night, make sure you have an eye cream stored in the fridge for a quick morning pick-me-up emergency eye de-puffer!

Lipsticks
Basic and most important rule for lipsticks: once refrigerated, you must always keep it refrigerated. But, if you accidentally melt a lipstick, a few minutes in the fridge will help return it to its normal shape and consistency.

Perfumes
Storing your favourite fragrance in the fridge not only extends it shelf life but it also protects against oxidation.
