When was the last time you cleaned your refrigerator? Kick start your Chinese New Year spring cleaning with Liebherr’s guide to a cleaner fridge.

1) Empty Your Refrigerator

First, prepare a clear table surface to hold the contents of your fridge – I don’t know about you, but a cluttered space makes me less efficient. Then, empty your refrigerator. Try to place similar items together to make organising easier for you later.

2) Wash All Shelves, Racks, And Drawers

Unplug the appliance to save electricity before preparing to clean the fridge. Remove all shelves, racks, and drawers and wash them in the sink. Lukewarm water with some dishwashing detergent will do the trick. Allow these fittings to air-dry.

3) Clean The Inside Of The Fridge

Now, use a soft cloth to wipe the appliance interior and rubber door seals. Again, a mixture of warm water and dishwashing detergent will be perfect. Avoid kitchen cleaners and disinfectants as they may contain strong chemicals that can cause contamination.

4) Toss Anything Past Its Prime

While you wait for the refrigerator fittings to dry completely, check the expiry dates of all items and toss anything past its prime. Does that old cheese look mouldy or smell funny? Out it go! Hoarding spoiled food in the fridge will cause odours and affect the quality of other stored items. Clearing out your fridge also creates more storage space for when you go grocery shopping to prepare for Chinese New Year.

5) Replace Your Sparkling Clean Fittings!

Your shelves, racks, and drawers should be dry by now, so replace them and switch the refrigerator back on. If your Liebherr has SuperCool and SuperFrost functions, activate them so that both your fridge and freezer reach their desired temperatures quickly.

Once the interior starts getting cold, you can then store your items back in. Make full use of your Liebherr BioFresh compartments to ensure ultimate freshness for your goods – use HyrdroSafe for fruits and vegetables that require high humidity, and DrySafe for fish, meat, and dairy products.

6) Cleaning The Refrigerator Exterior

Keeping the interior clean is definitely important, but don’t you want your fridge to look good, too? Depending on the material of the refrigerator exterior, here’s how to make your appliance sleek and shiny.

Stainless steel: Dampen a microfiber cloth with stainless steel cleaner and wipe in the direction of the grain. Afterwards, reseal the dry surface with stainless steel polish, again working in the direction of the grain. Both the stainless steel cleaner and stainless steel polish can be purchased from our Aftersales Service team.

Stainless steel with SmartSteel finish: Our SmartSteel surface must be treated with care and using a special cleaning agent is greatly discouraged. Instead, simply wipe the surface with a soft, clean cloth. To move any stubborn dirt, use a little bit of water or a pH-neutral cleaner.

Important! Stainless steel cleaner must not be used on SmartSteel surface as this can damage the special finishing.

Painted surface: This is the most common fridge exterior. Wipe with a soft, clean cloth, and make sure there are no foreign hard particles that can scratch the paint. For stubborn dirt, use a little bit of water or a pH neutral cleaner.

Easy, isn’t? Now you can enjoy your reunion dinner instead of scrambling to spring clean your fridge!
