Minty Watermelon Cocktail
You’ll never go wrong to impress mum with this fancy cocktail – the perfect drink for brunch or dinner.
What you’ll need: pureed watermelon, mint leaves, your favourite prosecco, small watermelon slices for garnish.
How to make it: Mix watermelon and prosecco together in a cocktail shaker, or stir in a large pitcher if you’re planning to make more than 1 serving. Add mint leaves on top for garnish and serve with small watermelon slices.
For virgin/non-alcoholic version: substitute sparkling cider or club soda for prosecco.
Mother of Pearl
Pearls often symbolize motherhood, purity, generosity, integrity and loyalty. So what better way to show mum you appreciate her by mixing this cocktail for her. Express your gratitude by small things, even though you can’t buy her a pearl jewelry, a fancy drink with an edible pearl would definitely put a smile on her face.
What you’ll need: vodka, coconut milk, lychee syrup or nectar, lime juice, pearly sago, coconut shreds
How to make it: combine vodka, coconut milk, lychee syrup, lime juice and ice in a cocktail shaker. Shake and pour in a cocktail glass or if convenient, pour into a coconut shell. Garnish with pearly white sago and coconut shreds.
For virgin/non-alcoholic version: omit vodka.
Add hints of sunshine to the classic mojito mix, and impress mum with this summer flavour.
What you’ll need: thinly sliced grapefruits and lemons, mints, sugar, rum, lime juice cordial, sparkling water or club soda
How to make it: pour a small portion of lime juice cordial, mint and sugar in a glass or pitcher. Crush the ingredients together to release the mint flavour and dissolve sugar. Squeeze the lemon and grapefruit, add the rum and mix well, top up with soda water and ice. Garnish with grapefruit, lemons slices and mint.
For virgin/non-alcoholic version: omit rum.
Citrusy Champagne Sangria
Reward mum with this perfect sangria mix that will surely bring summer vibes.
What you’ll need: chardonnay (or other white wine), hulled and quartered fresh strawberries, lemon slices, grapefruit slices, sparkling water or fruit soda and ice
How to make it: place strawberries, lemon and grapefruit slices in a pitcher. Pour in rum and wine, mix together, cover and let it soak overnight in the refrigerator. Upon serving, pour the sangria mix into a glass with ice, put remaining sliced fruits in and add chilled sparkling water or fruit soda.
For virgin/non-alcoholic version: substitute sparkling water or fruit soda for chardonnay.
This concoction is as refreshing as strolling through the garden in spring time, reminiscent of flowers blooming with its lovely scent and tangy flavour. Partner it with seafood, salads or charcuterie.
What you’ll need: dry rose wine, lime juice, watermelon cubes, rosemary, lime wheel, pinch of salt
How to make it: dry rose wine and lime juice in a Collins glass, stir. Fill the glass halfway with crushed ice, add a pinch of salt and stir again. Add in a few more crushed ice to fill the glass. Garnish with watermelon cubes, lime wheel and rosemary.
For virgin/non-alcoholic version: substitute rose water for rose wine.
Mango Julius cocktail
A spinoff on the classic orange julius.
What you’ll need: ripe mangoes, milk, vanilla ice cream, vanilla extract, rum, sugar and pineapple juice (optional)
How to make it: puree all the ingredients in a blender, add ice and puree until mixture is smooth.
For virgin/non-alcoholic version: omit rum.
